The government has said that the Kharif crop has been sown on 847.40 lakh hectares of area as on August 7, 2015 as per reports received from the states.
This is a significant improvement over the the 2014-15 figure of 808.40 lakh hectares of area.
It is reported that rice has been sown or transplanted in 227.81 lakh hectares of land, while pulses has been sown or transplanted in 82.44 lakh hectares of area.
Coarse cereals have been sown or transplanted in 148.49 lakh hectares of land, while oilseeds have been sown or cultivated in 148.52 lakh hectares of land.
Cotton has been sown or cultivated in 105.68 lakh hectares of land.
Jute and cotton have been sown or cultivated on the least land space as per the figures provided for this fiscal in comparison to last year's figures.
