Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju today assured the state governments of Assam that the Centre is there to assist them.
Rijiju said, "We are here to assist the state government. We have sent additional forces, as demanded by Assam government. Now it is for Assam to use to the additional forces."
Rijiju also confirmed that talks have been scheduled between Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and Nagaland Chief Minister TR Zeliang in Guwahati. "I am also going to Guwahati," he added.
Rijiju also distanced the Centre from any responsibility in Assam. "This is a matter to be solved between the two state governments of Assam and Nagaland. The Centre can only assist them. I cannot direct the state government how to behave," he said, adding that the viewpoints given by both state governments are different.
