Stand-in Indian captain Virat Kohli had made a dominating century as India cruised to a six-wicket win over Zimbabwe in the first one-day international on Wednesday.
Kohli, who replaced regular captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni for the limited-overs series, hit 115 of 108 balls in the dominant performance of the game and combined for a 159-run partnership for the third wicket with debutant Ambati Rayudu, who made a half-century.
Kohli and Rayudu (63) had taken the game away from Zimbabwe, which had been held to 228-7 after India won the toss and bowled.
Meanwhile, Indian leg-spinner Amit Mishra led India's bowling attack as he took 3-43 on a turning pitch at Harare Sports Club, while Pakistan-born batsman Sikandar Raza top-scored for Zimbabwe with 82 for his first ODI half-century.
Scores:
India 230-4 in 44.5 overs (Kohli 115, Rayudu 63 not out) def. Zimbabwe 228-7 in 50 overs (Raza 82, Elton Chigumbura 43 not out; Mishra 3-43).
