An all-party delegation from the Andhra Pradesh on Friday met Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, seeking his intervention on the state's sharing of Krishna river water.
According to Television reports, the delegation led by Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy submitted a memorandum over the recent award of the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal (KWDT).
Headed by Justice Brijesh Kumar, the tribunal had delivered its final award on November 29, in which a firm allocation of 1,005 thousand million cubic feet (tmcft) of Krishna water was made to Andhra Pradesh.
Opposition parties in Andhra Pradesh have criticised the government for not presenting its arguments effectively before the tribunal.
According to Sudershan Reddy, AP's lawyer before the tribunal, the state now has no rights over the surplus waters.
The tribunal's award would be in effect till 2050 and experts have expressed concern over availability of water to Andhra farmers especially with projects like Almatti in the upper riparian state of Karnataka.
The Krishna River originates in Maharashtra and flows through Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh before discharging into the Bay of Bengal.
