Two-time grand slam champion Petra Kvitova has pulled out of Eastbourne grass-court tournament because of illness, thus hampering her preparations for the defence of her Wimbledon's title starting from next week.

The defending Wimbledon champion will now go into the tournament without playing any competitive grass-court tennis, having played her last match in the French Open.

Kvitova said that she has a sore throat and has to drink tea and take rest, the BBC reported.

She hopes to be fine for the Wimbledon's, saying that she would stay in Eastbourne and then slowly move to London.

Kvitova was expected to play doubles at Aegon International with number two seed Caroline Wozniacki.

Kvitova, who is ranked second in the world, won the Wimbledon title in 2011 and now has only seven days to recover before the competition which starts from June 29.
