England women's team has created history by winning its first knock-out match, defeating Norway 2-1 in the FIFA Women's World Cup.

Defender Lucy Bronze scored a stunning long range strike in the 76th minute of the match and helped her team to reach the quarter-finals where they would be facing the host nation Canada.

Solveig Gulbrandsen's opener gave the Norwegians a deserved lead after the break in 54th minute of the match.

However, Steph Houghton scored the equaliser through a header just after seven minutes.

The two European sides battled hard to outclass each other and the English side had to wait until the 76th minute to take the lead when Bronze struck from the goal from 22 yards, the BBC reported.

England, who has reached the last eight for the third consecutive time, would fancy their chances when they would meet Canada in Vancouver on Saturday.
