Pakistan's new cricket chief selector Rashid Latif has said that relying on senior players backfired following the team's batting collapse against the West Indies, which saw Pakistan crash out from the World Twenty20 tournament.
The former Pakistani Test captain said that the board's decision to select too many senior players at the expense of youth is the reason of their downfall.
According to The Nation, Latif said that just like Australia had failed in their plans of selecting senior players, Pakistan also fumbled because of selecting senior players.
Although Latif has declined to name any players but speculations are reportedly likely to focus on keeper Kamran Akmal and all-rounder Shoaib Malik, who were selected for their experience but could not prevent Pakistan from being bowled out for a paltry 82 against the West Indies in pursuit of 167 runs.
Latif said that Pakistan lost the match because of their batsmen while the West Indies won it because of an outstanding batting, the report added.
