A group of law students staged a protest here on Tuesday to demand total prohibition in Tamil Nadu.

Shops across Tamil Nadu remained closed today in wake of the shutdown call given by opposition parties over the demand of total prohibition of liquor in the state.

The shutdown call was given by MDMK, MMK, SPDI, VCK, CPI and CPM and has also received support from the BJP.

Last week, Gandhian activist Sasi Perumal, who had been demanding liquor prohibition in Tamil Nadu for over four decades, died while protesting against existence of liquor shops in Kanyakumari.
