Bestselling author Lee Child has now revealed how he thought about Jack Reacher.
Reacher, who real name is Jim Grant, said that in 1995, after working for 18 years for Granada Television, he was made unemployed.
His bosses told him that due to restructuring his role as a presentation director had disappeared, however, he suspects that his reputation as a tough-talking trade union man had resulted in him being blacklisted.
He said that until then he had never written anything before but he was a huge reader of crime fiction, and bought six pads of paper and some pencils that weekend, and on Monday morning he sat down at his dining- room table and forced himself to do it, FHM India magazine reported.
Child said that he didn't over-think it, and had known from the beginning that he wanted his character to be wandering around America solving crimes, but there was no master plan.
He explained that he made it up as he went along, adding that he saw where Reacher took him.
