Congratulating leader of the Liberal Party of Canada Justin Trudeau on winning the General Elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday he is looking forward to working closely with him to further expand and deepen the relationship between the two nations in the years to come.
"The partnership between India and Canada is blessed with enormous potential for mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation across a wide range of areas. It can also help shape a more peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world, said the Prime Minister.
In a letter to Canada's PM elect Trudeau, Prime Minister Modi said, "Canada has emerged as an important and reliable partner in India's socio-economic transformation and relations between the two countries have made remarkable progress in recent years, while the bilateral relations were elevated to the level of strategic partnership during my visit in April this year."
Congratulating Trudeau for leading the Liberal Party to a victory in the general election, the Prime Minister said, he has brought vision, youth and energy to the leadership, which will sustain and strengthen Canada's success at home and abroad. "Mr Trudeau's leadership will also be of great significance for the world at a time of many global challenges," he added.
Prime Minister Modi also recalled his meeting with Trudeau during his visit to Canada, saying he was struck by his desire to deepen the multi-faceted ties, anchored in a common framework of democracy, pluralism, rule of law and close people-to-people relations.
