The Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills, Pravin Bakshi, on Thursday said action would be taken against the doctor if it was proved that he committed an act of medical negligence by prematurely releasing a fatally injured youth who was involved in a scuffle in the Risipara area of the district that occurred on October 13.

"Action can only take place after a magisterial inquiry and a preliminary report is prepared," said Bakshi.

On October 13, police had rescued three youths, who had been allegedly beaten up. Locals said they were looking for ganja which led to a scuffle between the youth and the residents.

One of the boys succumbed to his injuries two days later.

The civil bodies have since been demanding action against doctor for negligence. The doctor after giving first aid to the youth had discharged them. The civil bodies allege that the youth were seriously injured and should have been admitted to a hospital for emergency treatment.

Bakshi said that following the violence in Risipara in which the youth succumbed to the injuries on October 15, the administration has already ordered a magisterial probe and eight suspects arrested.
