The Uran Education Society School, whose students had complained yesterday about the suspicious movement of people near a naval base, declared a holiday on Friday for security reasons.

Maharashtra's Additional Chief Secretary K. P. Bakshi has asked the state's Director General of Police (DGP), Satish Mathur, to submit a detailed report on the Uran alert by today.

Yesterday, the Indian Navy was put on high alert along the coast of Mumbai after five or six suspicious armed people were seen around the Naval Station Karanja near Uran.

According to naval sources, the men were spotted by the students opposite to the naval base.

As per the students, they heard the men say 'ONGC' and 'school' repeatedly.

Navy PRO Captain D. K. Sharma informed that a team of Indian Navy officials is conducting search and combing operations in the area.

The police has asked locals to remain alert and immediately report any suspicious activity to them.

A Mumbai Police statement said officials of the National Security Guard, the Anti Terrorism Squad, Mumbai Crime Branch and the Indian Navy are involved in the search and combing operation.
