A Maine man who suggested shooting President Barack Obama in a Facebook Post along with a racial slur, has resigned from all boards and committees on which he serves in the town of Sabattus.

According to the New York Daily News, the resignation came hours before selectmen were to meet Thursday evening to consider removing David Marsters from all positions he held in the town.

Marsters, 68, was interviewed by the Secret Service and Sabattus police are investigating, the report said.

The senior citizen submitted his resignation in an email and apologized for his remarks, the report added.

Town Manager Andrew Gilmore said the comments were hateful and the opposite of what the town stands for.

Marsters, a retired police officer, proposed a town ordinance to require heads of household to own guns, but selectmen unanimously rejected the idea, the report further said.
