Major reshuffle in CBI after Alok Verma resumes charge

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) underwent another reshuffle among its top ranks and files on Thursday, a day after Alok Verma resumed charge as CBI Director and nullified almost all transfer orders made by the interim chief M. Nageswara Rao.

According to CBI sources, five officers, namely Joint Director (JD) Ajay Bhatnagar, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) MK Sinha, DIG Tarun Gauba, JD Murugesan, and Additional Director General (ADG) AK Sharma were transferred.

Anish Prasad will continue as Deputy Director, Administration, CBI Headquarters and KR Chaurasia will head Special Unit-I (the unit which carries surveillance), the source added.

Bhatnagar, Joint Director (JD) of CBI's Multi-Disciplinary Monitoring Agency (MDMA) and North East Zone was given additional charge of Training.

Furthermore, MK Sinha, DIG was given the responsibility of Anti-Corruption Unit (AC-I) along with Bank Security and Fraud Cell. Sinha was supervising a probe against CBI Special Director Rakesh Asthana.

Tarun Gauba DIG, Anti Corruption Branch (ACB) Chandigarh has been given additional charge of Anti Corruption Unit -III.

CBI Joint director V Murugesan, AC II will also supervise AC III and Additional Director General AK Sharma will supervise AC -I.

On the midnight of October 23, 2018, the government had sent Verma along with Special Director Rakesh Asthana, Number two in the CBI, on leave in the wake of their bitter fight.

Verma had challenged the government's order in the Supreme Court which on Tuesday directed that he be reinstated as the CBI chief but barred him from taking any major policy decisions.
