A Gallup poll has revealed that 52 percent Americans say they would vote for a federal amendment legalizing same-sex marriage, compared to 43 percent who would vote against one.

The Washington Times reports that the federal law legalizing same-sex marriage in all 50 states is being broadly supported from self-identified liberals (77 percent) and Democrats (70 percent).

54 percent of a half-sample of Americans say marriages should be recognized by the law as valid with the same rights as heterosexual marriages.

Meanwhile, Republicans and conservatives would vote in equal proportion of 30 percent for such a law.

According to the report, there is also a significant difference of opinion due to age gap.
