Three Incan kids - sacrificed half a millennia back - were made to consume drugs and alcohol, so that they became more compliant to the ritual that led to their death.

Archaeologists tested samples of hair from their frozen mummies - discovered in 1999 - buried within a shrine near the 6,739m summit of the volcano Llullaillaco in Argentina, Discovery News reported.

They found that all three kids had been made to consume coca leaves and alcoholic beverages consistently; another finding was that the oldest child the famed 'Maiden,' had more of those substances in her body.

The work has been published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
