Man arrested at Guwahati Railway Station with gold bars

A man has been arrested and six gold bars worth over Rs 16 lakh recovered from him at the Guwahati railway station here.

The Guwahati Railway Police Station (GRPS) apprehended Amzad Ali, 35, hailing from Bhattapur in West Bengal on Saturday evening, police official said.

Customs Department was informed about the matter as the gold bars recovered by the police are suspected to have been smuggled by him across the border.

Ali, along with the seized item has been handed over by police station authorities to the Customs department as per the norms.
