Maoist attack: Raman Singh calls special meeting to assess situation

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh on Tuesday called a special meeting of top state officials to review the Maoist attack which has left twenty security personnel dead.

At least 20 security personnel were feared killed and more than 10 injured when Maoists attacked a team of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) near Tongpal in Sukma district.

Police said the CRPF team, belonging to 80th battalion, were part of a road opening party which had left Tongpal early morning when Maoists triggered an IED and opened indiscriminate fire on them.

Meanwhile, former Chief Minister Ajit Jogi termed the attack on the forces as unfortunate and blamed the state government for its failure to prevent such attacks on the security forces.

"It is an unfortunate incident. My heart goes out to those who were killed in this attack. Many people have died and got injured in this attack. The attack happened near the spot where our Congress leaders were killed last year," said Jogi.

"I am worried because the state government is not taking this issue seriously. Such incidents are happening again and again. The state government should take this threat seriously," he added.

He also said that the state and the central government should offer all the help to the families of dead soldiers.

"There are certain failures which can be seen after this attack. There is definitely a failure of intelligence. There is also an operational failure. Whenever forces are dispatched then certain precautions should be taken," he said.
