Mayawati continues attack on BJP over reservation

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati on Friday fired a fresh salvo at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by accusing it of turning a blind eye to the woes of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

Mayawati asserted that ever since the BJP has come in to power at the Centre, it has allocated governmental projects to private companies which do not have provision for reservation for the ST's and SC's.

"Ever since the BJP government has taken over at the Centre, my party and I have been asserting on the point that the saffron government has not filled the reservation quota for the backward classes," she said.

"The Central government gave all the important jobs to private sector companies and in the private sector there is no provision for reservation for SC's and ST's. Similarly, in the BJP ruled state the story is the same," she added.

Fearing that the SC's and ST's will be left behind as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has formed government in Uttar Pradesh Mayawati said, "Now the BJP has formed government in Uttar Pradesh once again the government work will go in to the hands of private companies and the SC's and ST's will be left behind."

The BJP-led central government on Thursday rejected the charge that it was trying to end reservation for SCs and STs, as the Lok Sabha passed the Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Orders (Amendment) Bill, 2017, that seeks to modify the list of Scheduled Castes in Odisha.

Replying to a debate on the bill, Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Thaawar Chand Gehlot said the bill is one step further as part of the government's resolve for welfare and upliftment of the people belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
