Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Tuesday, continued her tirade against the Uttar Pradesh (U.P) Government over the Badaun rape case.
She lashed out at the state government over its failure to deliver justice to the families of the victims' and not letting the CBI pursue this case.
"The victims' families say that they have no hope of justice from the Uttar Pradesh Government. I have come to know from the DGP's statement that the state government has not given the case to be pursued by the CBI, and this has led to the victim's family to going on a hunger strike," Mayawati said.
She alleged that not a day passes in Uttar Pradesh when a rape or murder incident is not reported.
The BSP supremo also criticised the Congress and the BJP for being hand in glove with the U.P Government by not saying a word against it in the house when she raised the matter. She stressed on the fact that no central minister from the BJP had said anything on this incident.
"Earlier, the Congress was with SP, and now, the BJP is supporting them. No central minister is saying one word against them," she added.
Mayawati also questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi's silence on this issue and termed his use of his backward class sentiment as a ploy to bag votes during the elections.
She asked: "The girls in Badaun were not Dalits, but backward class Shakya Samaj, isn't the PM also from the backward class? Why is he silent now?"
The BSP chief warned that if there is no visible movement in this case in the next few days, her party will knock on the doors of the courts of the land to force the government to hand over the case to the CBI.
"If the Uttar Pradesh Government doesn't hand over the Badaun case to the CBI in the next four to five days, then, we will approach the judiciary," she said.
Mayawati had earlier in the day demanded imposition of president's rule in Uttar Pradesh on the claim that the Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party Government has consistently failed to improve law and order in the state.
Mayawati brought up this demand in the Rajya Sabha, even as BSP members raised slogans against the Uttar Pradesh Government.
Attention was drawn to the Badaun rape case and other incidents of atrocities committed against women. The ensuing ruckus forced the presiding officer to adjourn proceedings.
Meanwhile, Parliament is also discussing the Motion of Thanks to President Pranab Mukherjee for his joint address to members yesterday.
