The National Student Union of India (NSUI), student wing of Congress party, which till now was neutral about the Four Year Undergraduate program that was launched last year, has now decided to take on the authorities in Delhi University over a demand to withdraw it.

Seven NSUI members are currently on a indefinite hunger strike since June 6 outside the Faculty of Arts in the North Campus of the University.

Karishma Thakur, one of the member taking part in the fast and a NSUI leader told ANI, "NSUI will continue the hunger strike and the protest will continue till the time Smriti Irani (HRD Minister) and Delhi University's Vice Chancellor Dinesh Singh don't take back the FYUP".

NSUI members and a group of protesters staged a rally with banners and shouted slogans against Delhi University authorities. They also burnt effigies of HRD Minister Irani and DU Vice Chancellor Singh.

Amrish Ranjan Pandey, Spokesperson of the NSUI, said, "If the authorities don't give a positive response soon, this matter will escalate and protest will grow stronger." (ANI)
