Mayawati slams Akhilesh Govt., demands President's rule in UP

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Chief Mayawati, on Wednesday lashed out at the Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party (SP) Government over the deteriorating law and order situation in the state and demanded that President's rule should be imposed in the state.

Mayawati was speaking ahead of the Rajya Sabha polls for 10 seats, scheduled to be held in Uttar Pradesh on November 20.

"Through the media I would like to repeat that for the betterment of the people of Uttar Pradesh, the Governor should send a comprehensive report to the President of India and the Central Government and request President's rule to be implemented here in view of the continuously worsening law and order situation and the sad state of development under the rule of the incumbent government of Samajwadi Party," said Mayawati.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav ran his 2012 election campaign as a moderniser, advocating the use of technology to transform the state. However, his term in office has been marred by controversies over riots, gangsterism, and crime against women.

Mayawati further alleged that the Samajwadi Party Government was introducing schemes only on paper to divert attention from its inadequacies.

"To deflect attention of the people from their shortcomings, this government has been making false announcements about development schemes. And not only this, but some of the schemes that were started by this government, are being pushed into cold storage one-by-one," she added.

Mayawati also took on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), saying it is not paying attention to religious minorities and the poor.

"Like all the past governments, this government too has been neglecting Dalits, backward classes, Muslims and other religious minorities as well as the poor and the unemployed in the upper caste societies," she said.

Talking about the issue of bringing black money back into the country, Mayawati said the BJP government is not delivering its promise. She said though the government was projecting that inflation had fallen, the ground reality was that the common man was still reeling under high prices.

The government gave alleged black money holders' list to the Supreme Court in pursuance of the judicial order last week.

Mayawati also announced two of the BSP candidates for Rajya Sabha elections - Raja Ram from Azamgarh seat and Veer Singh from the seat of Moradabad.
