Northern Irish golf ace Rory McIlroy has claimed that the United States Ryder Cup team are overdoing it by the setting up of an 11-man taskforce in an attempt to end their losing streak against Europe.
McIlroy said that it is not rocket science why Europe have won eight of the past 10 tournaments, including the past three.
The US have named Davis Love as their captain for the 2016 event in Hazeltine, Minnesota, and changes to the qualification and wildcard systems are intended to assist him in selecting in-form players, the BBC reported.
McIlroy, who has won the Ryder Cup three times, believes that Love and Europe captain Darren Clarke would be formidable opponents. He added that he is surprised, and feels they're overdoing it, with the setting up of a taskforce and also talking about all the changes they want to bring in.
Next year would be 50-year-old Love's second time as captain after overseeing the US team's final-day collapse in the 2012 'Miracle of Medinah'.
Four-time major winner McIlroy said that Love is going to be a great captain and added that it was a freak that they won at Medinah, insisting that it was not supposed to happen given the US had a 10-6 lead.
McIlroy said that he gets the sense the States, what with their taskforce and everything that came out in the announcement, are desperate to win back the Ryder Cup.
The 2016 Ryder Cup would take place from 30 September to 2 October, the report added.
