World number one Rory McIlroy considers that the excitement of winning the Ryder Cup for the whole of Europe trumps lifting a Major title on his own.
The Northern Irishman returned to world number after claiming the Open and the US PGA during his golden summer. US captain Tom Watson has already identified McIlroy and Ian Poulter as the big dogs to be targeted by his American team at Gleneagles next week.
But the four-time Major winner, who lifted the Open Championship in July and the US PGA title last month, is ready for the challenge in his third Ryder Cup and looking forward to another unique team celebration in the biennial team event, The Mirror reported.
McIlroy said that he thinks the rush of winning as part of a team is better than winning as an individual, adding that he would always be prouder of his achievements as an individual, but it is great to win as part of a team in Ryder Cups.
The Northern Irishman said that a Major championship is more satisfying because there is a real sense of self-achievement but winning as part of a Ryder Cup team is more of a rush, as one is celebrating with everyone, it is a collective effort and that he loves.
