Northern Irish golf ace Rory McIlroy is hoping to dominate the sport and imitate the success of Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods after he won his Open Championship.

McIlroy won with a two-shot victory at Royal Liverpool, adding the Claret Jug to his 2011 US Open and 2012 PGA Championship wins.

McIlroy, who is confident of completing a Grand Slam of majors at the Masters in April, said that he feels like there is a lot more left in him, The BBC reported.

He said that he wants be to be the guy that goes on and wins majors regularly.

McIlroy believes that he can replicate the 18 Grand Slam wins Nicklaus amassed and the success of 14-time major winner Woods. He said that golf is looking for someone to put their hand up and try to dominate and he wants to be that person.

McIlroy, who is now world number two, said that he is immensely proud of himself, adding that to sit there at 25 years of age and win his third major championship and be three-quarters of the way to the career grand slam, he never dreamed of being at this point in his career so quickly.

Only Nicklaus and Woods had won as many of golf's cherished majors by the same age and scrutiny of McIlroy's Masters attempt in spring would now intensify as he bids to become the sixth player to achieve a Grand Slam.
