McIlroy says life would have been 'pretty boring' if was 'too easy all the time'

Northern Irish golf ace Rory McIlroy has claimed that his life would be 'pretty boring' if he had it 'too easy' all the time, adding that his slump in the sport has been a 'character-building' experience for him.

According to the Mirror, the Ulsterman, who will bid to defend his USPGA title at Oak Hill after a tumultuous period without a win with his new Nike clubs, has also fended off criticism from former players over his playing schedule and his relationship with Danish tennis star Caroline Wozniacki.

The double Major winner admitted that he has watched the video of his eight-shot triumph at Kiawah Island during the Olympics to recapture the 'feel-good' feeling instead of consulting a sports psychologist, adding that he will come out even stronger.

According to the former World No.1, although he wants to have success like he did when he won at Oak Hill last year, it would be quite boring for him if it was easy all the time, adding that a player can learn a lot from the challenges and try and get over them as the magic is not far ahead.

McIlroy, who missed the cut at the Open last month, also said that he would look back on this period as character building whenever he comes out of his 'slump'.

Stating that he just needs to go out and enjoy himself while playing, McIlroy also said that he tends to bring out the best in himself when he enjoys his game, adding that he will be fine even if he does not win in the event this time as he knows that he is steadily building towards success.

Aiming to rediscover his old, free-flowing swing so that he can compete against another superstar who has returned to the top of the sport - Tiger Woods, the World No.3 also said that it is inspiring to see the level of consistency that Woods had throughout his career, with three completely different golf swings.
