In a generous gesture, former world number one golfer Rory McIlroy stunned a Facebook fan by promising to ship one of his old drivers to him.

Barry Edwards jokingly posted a message on McIlroy's Facebook page asking McIlroy that if he could have one of the Northern Irishman's old driver, Sport24 reported.

However, McIlroy took him by surprise by responding: "Sure. I'll send you a Nike covert driver. Served me well! Message me your address and my team will ship it to you."

The current world number three insisted: "No joke. Message me and I'll have one shipped. Can't guarantee 320 yard drives though!!"

McIlroy won both The British Open and the US PGA Championship by using the Nike covert driver last year. He is currently using a newer model.
