Real Betis defender Paulao had reportedly started crying after scoring an own goal in his side's La Liga clash with Rayo Vallecano, after which he was taken off the field.
Betis, which was defeated 3-1 by Vallecano in the match, is situated at the bottom rung in the premier Spanish league and is facing almost certain relegation to the Segunda league.
According to Metro.co.uk, Paulao first slipped to let Rayo in for their first goal and then scored an own goal for the second, following which he started crying inconsolably, despite efforts by his teammates to calm him.
Paulao eventually asked his manager to take him off the field, and after his request was accepted, he began sobbing as he made his way to the bench, capping off a miserable run out, the report added.
