Prince Harry's girlfriend Meghan Markle chose acting over a promising career in Foreign Service as she was homesick for her native Los Angeles.

The 35-year-old actress recently made the confession in an essay for a new book titled 'The Game Changers' complied by Samantha Brett and Steph Adams, asking 40 famous women to reveal their success secrets, reports the Daily Mail.

The 'Suits' star's contribution was written just two weeks before her relationship with the popular royal went public.

In the an extract, published by The Sunday Telegraph, Markle explains that she was working at the US Embassy when she was approached by someone wanting to represent her as an actress.

The phone call caused the brunette beauty to re-evaluate which of her two university majors (theatre and international relations) she wanted to pursue.

She chose Hollywood, explaining, "Truth be told, I was a little homesick at the time, so staying in LA for a bit to roll the dice with an acting career seemed like a good idea. Thank God it worked!"

The 'Anti-social' actress has been dating Prince Harry for eight months. The pair were spotted enjoying a date night in London earlier this week.
