Michael Vaughan claims England's WC display has been 'abject' so far under coach Moores

Former Ashes-winning captain Michael Vaughan has claimed that England's 'abject' shows at the ongoing Cricket World Cup have mounted pressure on Peter Moores, who is in his second tenure as coach, and hinted that he might suffer the axe if the squad fails to reach the quarterfinals.

England endured a humiliating eight-wicket defeat by New Zealand on Friday and were on the receiving end of a 111-run loss to Australia in their opening Pool A match. They would next face Scotland on Monday and know that a win is crucial for them as they need to emerge victorious in three of their remaining four games to have a chance of reaching the last eight.

However, Vaughan does not feel that they have a good chance. He said that Moores is not stupid, adding that he would know the Scotland game and the next four matches are massive in his second tenure as coach, Sport24 reported.

Vaughan said that one doesn't don't get long second time around, adding that Moores' first stint was not a success and the second time hasn't been so far either. He added that the coach simply has to start winning games, qualify for the quarterfinals and start competing because at the moment it is abject.

Vaughan said that he did not expect England to win this World Cup, adding that he thought that they might surprise a few teams, insisting that so far they have only surprised him by being so poor.

Vaughan said that although they can they still reach the quarterfinal he doesn't see them going any further.
