Senior Congress Party leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said on Tuesday that had his party not brought democracy more than six decades ago, Smriti Irani would have been knocking at the doors of the RSS, rather being a minister in the NDA Government.
"Smriti Irani has become a union minister. This is enough to prove what we have done in the past six decades," said Azad.
"If we would have not brought democracy, then she (Irani) could not have become a minister. She would have been at the doors of the RSS," he added.
Irani had earlier said it was the Congress which has been practicing "hawabaazi" for the past 40 years where as Prime Minister Narendra Modi had fulfilled most of the promises that he had made in the past 18 months.
