A Chinese envoy to the United Nations has reportedly highlighted the need for the international community to give more attention to the special role of women in peace-building process.
China's permanent representative to the UN Liu Jieyi said that respecting and protecting women's rights is not only a reflection of progress in human society and civilization, but also closely linked to global peace and development.
The Chinese envoy further said that women participation is an important foundation for realizing sustainable peace and social stability.
He said that in all countries, it is the government bears the primary responsibility of the protection of women's safety and rights.
Liu explained that the Security Council, as the primary body tasked with maintaining peace and security, should focus on conflict prevention, dispute mediation and post-conflict peace-building, so as to create political, security and legal environments for the protection of women's security and rights.
