Mufti accuses Congress, NC of vote bank politics in J-K

People's Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday accused the Congress and the National Conference of playing vote bank politics in Jammu and Kashmir.

Mufti alleged that both the parties were distributing blankets in the relief camps of the Kashmir Valley to gain votes.

"The people of valley are frustrated with the Congress and NC and their scams. They are doing politics even in relief camps by distributing blankets to gain votes. All eyes are now on Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. The people are confident that the PDP will form the next government in Kashmir," she said.

The PDP leader further said that the media was portraying Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections in a different light.

"The people of Jammu and Kashmir are voting for development, they are voting for electricity and water, but the media is showing this in a different light. They are showing that people are voting against Pakistan and Hurriyat, whereas this is not the case. They are just voting for development in valley," she added.

72 percent voter turnout was registered in the second phase of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections on Tuesday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be campaigning for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Srinagar on December 8 for the third phase of the assembly elections.

The votes will be counted on December 23.
