President Pranab Mukherjee has condoled the passing away of eminent artist Prokash Karmakar.
In his condolence message, Mukherjee said, "Shri Prokash Karmakar was an eminent artist and a role model for modern and contemporary Indian painters. His singular contribution to Indian Arts was recognized through a number of awards including Lalit Kala Akademi National Award."
"He will be a source of inspiration for all those interested in art and culture and his death leaves a void in the world of art and creativity," he added.
Karmakar died on Monday in Kolkata at the age of 81 following age-related illness.
Karmakar had won many prestigious awards including the Lalit Kala Akademi National Award.
His works are permanent collections of the National Gallery of Modern Art, Lalit Kala Akademi in Delhi and Lucknow Academy of Fine Arts in Kolkata.
