Murray calls 1.6 million pounds Wimbledon prize 'ridiculous sum of money'

New Wimbledon Champion Andy Murray has revealed that 1.6 million pounds was a ridiculous sum of money that he received for winning the men's singles title at the All England Club, adding that he would have to do more things in less time now that he was so popular.

According to The Guardian, Murray had deposited a cheque for 1.6 million pounds, his prize after beating Novak Djokovic in the men's singles final last Sunday, and laughed about the sudden increase in his wealth.

The Scot revealed that he enjoyed sitting next to the All England Club chairman, Phil Brook and Marion Bartoli at the champions' dinner and none of the previous champions had won 1.6 million pounds, the report said.

The British tennis superstar is on course to become one of Britain's richest sportsmen, after he ended the nation's 77-year wait for a men's Wimbledon Champion since Fred Perry in 1936.

However, Murray said that his prime focus still was on his training and indicated that he could walk away from the tennis league proposed by one of his new business advisers, Mahesh Bhupathi, if it threatens to interfere with his winter training block in Miami, the report added.
