Wimbledon champion Andy Murray has insisted that his surprise split from coach Ivan Lendl after two years together was a 'mutual decision', as he prepares to defend his title at the Miami Masters.
The British No.1 and sixth seed from Scotland will open the defense of his Miami crown on Friday against Australia's Matthew Ebden.
According to Sport24, Murray said that he and Lendl sat down for dinner and chatted for an hour about them moving forward, adding that they had planned to have the discussion for a few weeks now.
Murray said that the decision came quickly once it became apparent there would be no furthering of the coach-pupil relationship and that the best thing was for them to both move on, although he admitted that it was a tough decision for him as Lendl has been a big part of his life and had made a huge difference to his game.
Lendl, a former world number one who captured eight Grand Slam titles, guided Murray to US Open and Wimbledon titles plus the London Olympic gold medal, the report added.
