Leader of the Congress in Lok Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, on Monday said the people are now realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's intention as the nation is suffering post demonetisation.

"When we were speaking on demonetisation, then Modi ji was laughing. The people said it should be given chance, but now they are now facing problems and realising the intention behind the demonetisation move," Kharge told the media here.

"Now when the scheme has failed, he (PM Modi) is making different statements. Daily wagers, salaried people, farmers are in distraught. Even mothers don't have money to feed milk to their children. This has utterly failed," he added.

Taking a dig at Prime Minister Modi's assertion for cashless economy, Kharge dubbed it to be a gimmick while stating that only three crore people have cashless card.

"Where will others who don't have cards go? Black money campaign had failed as he had said that he would bring black money in 100 days," he added.

In the 27th edition of his 'Mann Ki Baat' address to the nation yesterday, Prime Minister Modi aggressively defended demonetisation.

"Another issue which comes up is this, why are rules changed time and again? This government is for the sake of the people. The government continuously endeavours to take feedback from them. What are the areas of difficulty for the people? What are the rules that are creating hindrances? And what are the possible solutions? The government, being a sensitive government, amends rules as required, keeping the convenience of the people as its foremost consideration, so that citizens are not subjected to hardships," he said.
