Bharatiya Janata Party's MLA from Amritsar (East) and the wife of Navjot Singh Sidhu, who recently launched a political front 'Awaaz-e-Punjab', Navjot Kaur Sidhu on Saturday resigned from the saffron party's primary membership.
The BJP MLA has sent a one-line resignation to Punjab BJP president and Union minister Vijay Sampla, who has accepted it.
On September 14, cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu formally resigned from the BJP.
He had been upset since the BJP decided not to field him from Amritsar, a seat he had held for 10 years, in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
The BJP fielded Arun Jaitley, who lost to Congress' Amrinder Singh in the polls.
According to sources, earlier Sidhu had held meeting with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal at his residence here on the night of August 12. Sidhu wanted the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to project him as the chief ministerial candidate in the upcoming Punjab polls, which was flatly denied, said sources
Further, Sidhu wanted the party's ticket for his wife as well; to which, the AAP leadership cited the party's constitution that doesn't allow more than one member of a family to contest the elections or hold party's post.
