NCERT's Yoga Olympiad concludes today

The performances in various yogic practices during the three-day National Yoga Olympiad came to a conclusion here on Sunday.

The members of the jury also concluded their assessment and the final results shall be announced at the valedictory function on Monday, when Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Smriti Irani will give away the prizes.

After National Yoga Olympiad inaugurated by Secretary, MHRD,Subhash Chandra Khuntia at the NCERT on 18 June, children, from around 21 states, showcased their talent to jury members, drawn from renowned institutions of Yoga.

Teams were divided into four categories - Upper Primary Girls, Upper Primary Boys, Secondary Girls and Secondary Boys.

A total of 321 students along with their 79 teachers from 21 states participated in the Yoga Olympiad Performance on June 18 and 19.

Interestingly, the participation of girls outnumbered boys in Yoga Olympiad.

Children performed various pranayams, kriyas and mudrasanas. The performances included asanas- Tadasana, Vrikshasana, Trikonasana, Garudasana, Yogamudrasana, Badha Padmasana, Pachimattanasana, Supta Vajrasana, Gamukhasana, Ardhamatsyendrasana Bhujangasana, Shalabhasana, Dhanurasana, Makarasana, Setubandhasana, Halasana, Matsyasana, Chakrasana, Pawanmaktasana; Pranayam- Anulomaviloma, Sitkari, Bharmari, Kriyas- Kapalabhati & Agnisara. Secondary stage students also perform Bandha.

Students were also given opportunity to perform Suryanamasakar on their own choice.

They rehearsed with full enthusiasm under the guidance of yoga gurus. The initial spirit of competition which emerged among participants, in the end gave way to a spirit of camaraderie and cooperation.
