Reacting to growing crimes against women, National Commision for Women (NCW) member Shamina Shafiq on Thursday called on the police to be more sensitive to women when they file their complaints and tougher with criminals, who presently are not scared of the law.
"Despite the presence of police, if such things are still happening then it shows clearly that the criminals are not at all scared of police force and law," said Shafiq.
She said that women are also human beings and cannot be treated like animals.
"The law and order situation, particularly in UP, is bad. Women associations have called for sensitization of the police force. But no action plan has come up yet," she added.
Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson Barkha Dutt called for changes in the law.
"There should be change in law. I feel convict should get strong punishment then only the things will change," said Dutt.
