Negative reporting by Chinese media frustrated Asia's first Grand Slam singles winner, Li Na, so much that she contemplated retiring from the game.

Li, who won the 2011 French Open, was criticized after being defeated by American Bethanie Mattek-Sands in the second round at Roland Garros.

Li said that her country's was writing very negative things, and added that their wrong reporting gave he a very tough time when she played the French Open, and Wimbledon.

She further clarified that only a certain section of the Chinese was were reporting negatively against her, and added that maybe they wanted to be more famous.

Li said she was really happy to do well in Wimbledon, so that's why she is continuing until now, The China Daily reports.

Following the French Open, Li boarded a long flight to her hometown of Wuhan in central China to see her mother and galvanize herself for Wimbledon, where she shrugged off her slump to reach her third quarterfinal at the tournament.
