Former Nepal prime minister and top Maoist leader Baburam Bhattarai resigned as lawmaker amid differences with the major Nepalese political parties over the promulgation of new Constitution.
Bhattarai also resigned from Unified CPN-Maoist party, to form his own political outfit.
Addressing a press conference in Kathmandu yesterday, he said that he will visit the cities in troubled Terai region to understand the situation.
The former prime minister has been sympathetic to the agitation launched by Madhesi parties demanding more rights and representation to the people residing in the southern plains of Nepal.
He had earlier criticised lawmakers, including members of his own party, for not considering minorities during the drafting of the new Constitution.
Bhattarai, a veteran leader of the Unified CPN-Maoist, was the senior-most leader after party chief Pushpa Kamal Dahal, popularly known as Prachanda.
