'Nervous' PM Modi resorted to Prez rule: Congress

The Congress Party of Sunday trained guns on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the imposition of President's Rule in Uttarakhand, saying that his government was 'nervous' that Chief Minister Harish Rawat would prove his majority in the floor test.

"The floor test was about to take place, and it was clear that Harish Rawat would have proved his majority. So, Modi sahib, out of nervousness , that despite their plan of defecting our MLAs, Harish Rawat would prove his majority, got afraid and murdered democracy," Congress leader Shakeel Ahmed told ANI.

Ahmed further said that the Congress would raise this issue in the Parliament and every political forum.

In Dehradun, furious over imposition of President's Rule in Uttarakhand, Chief Minister Harish Rawat, said that democracy was being murdered in Uttarakhand.

"This is murder of our democracy and the constitution," he said.

He said that the Cnetre has been after his government ever since BJP came to power.

"BJP-led Central government pahle din se hi mere aur meri sarkar ke khun ki pyaasi thi (BJP led centre was from the very first day after me and my government)," he said.

"Centre even made deduction in the funds allocated to the state, even funds for pilgrimage was reduced," he added.

After almost seven days of verbal battle between the Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the political crisis in Uttarakhand, President's rule was imposed in the hill state on Sunday.

Sources said the move was taken after Governor K.K. Paul submitted his report.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat earlier condemned the threat by the Centre to impose President's rule in the state.

The Congress late yesterday evening dubbed the cabinet meeting, which was held in the national capital to decide on the political crisis in Uttarakhand, as the last phase of drama scripted by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
