The Freemasons of India, an NGO , has come forward to help the State Government in restoring the education establishments, which were left devastated post September 2014 floods, in downtown area here.

The Freemasons of India NGO, under The Grand Lodge of India in association with the Regional Grand Lodge of Northern India, adopted two government schools that were completely damaged during the floods in the Chattabal area of Srinagar city.

Today, the NGO, which had earlier restored one of the schools, helped reopening another school, the Government Boys High School Chattabal.

The NGO has constructed a new block in the school and are providing all the facilities, including the computer room, midday meal hall and renovated class rooms.

"We will always give 100 percent support to both the schools in every way," NGO coordinator GD Rao said.

The students and the school staff, while expressing their joy and happiness, said that education will get a new fillip in the area with the reopening of this school.

One of students Irfan Ahmed said: "We would like to thank the NGO for reopening our school, which was damaged completely because of the floods."

More than 100 boys and girls are presently enrolled in this school and the school management hopes that the number will increase with the now upgraded infrastructure.
