Nifty ends Sept F&O expiry at 7868; oil and metal stocks decline

Reversing gains from the previous session, equity benchmarks closed higher on Thursday. The Sensex rose with 40.51 points at 25863.50 and the Nifty gained 22.55 points with a trade of 7868.50.

The market breadth was positive as Lupin topped the buying list on Sensex. On the other hand, Infosys, GAIL, ITC, Bajaj Auto, HCL Technologies, Tata Power and IndusInd Bank rose with 1.8-3 percent becoming the top gainers.

However, ONGC, Coal India, Tata Motors, Tata Steel, L&T, NMDC and YES Bank were down 2-4 percent.
