A survey has revealed that about nine out of 10 Hong Kong pro-democracy protesters have said that they are prepared to stay on the streets for more than a year to oppose Beijing's tightening control over the city.

The straw poll found on Tuesday that 87 percent of the demonstrators were willing to campaign for more than a year while 93 percent said that even if the police cleared them away, they would regroup elsewhere and organize fresh street occupation, reported News 24.

The survey was conducted at two major protest sites on the one-month anniversary of the start of the pro-democracy protests and showed that an overwhelming majority of student protesters remained rigid.

The Hong Kong protests, which have been dubbed "the most tenacious protests since the former British colony returned to Chinese rule in 1997," finished a month yesterday as key roads leading to the economic and political districts in the town remained barricaded with wood and steel by protesters.

Demonstrators are protesting against China's decision to vet candidates in the 2017 Hong Kong elections.
