In a remark apparently directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday said only a Bihari would rule the state, not an outsider.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said the central government is only worried about coming to power in various states and not bothered for the welfare of the people.

"The central government is not worried about drought which has affected over 300 districts. I had announced subsidies on diesel and other yojanas, even before elections were announced. They (NDA) are only worried about coming to power. They want to win the elections in different states, municipal elections, gram panchayats. They only want power, but are not bothered for the welfare of the people," he said.

"The people of Bihar have said that only a Bihari will form the next government in the state, not an outsider. Mere angne mein tumhara kya kam hai (what is your (PM Modi) need in my backyard)," Kumar said while addressing a public meeting here.

Kumar also criticised Prime Minister Modi on the deteriorating law and order situation in Gujarat.

"Are you (PM Modi) not ashamed of calling Bihar as 'Jungle Raj'. The Gujarat state election commission has announced postponement of polls to various local bodies in the state, citing law and order situation as a reason. I want to ask PM Modi why the law and order situation in Gujarat is deteriorating. He comes to Bihar and talks of Jungle Raj, I want to ask him regarding the law and order situation in Gujarat," he added.
