The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday said that India will not initiate dialogues with Pakistan till the latter takes concrete steps to create a conducive atmosphere and improves the situation at the border.
"It is Pakistan's responsibility to create a conducive atmosphere for talks and Pakistan has not done that so far. We have had incidents of terror coming from across the border. Unless such situations completely stop, unless Pakistan takes concrete steps to improve the overall situation at the border, India will not reciprocate," BJP national spokesperson GVL Narasimha Rao told ANI here.
"Pakistan must create a positive atmosphere for the talks to commence," he added.
Narasimha Rao further said that Prime Minister Modi's address at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in September had made clear India's stand with regards to dialogues with the Islamic Republic.
"Pakistan's Prime Minister and other leaders of Pakistan have been repeatedly saying that they want to have bilateral talks with India if New Delhi takes the initiative. But the Indian position on this is very clear: Prime Minister Modi has stated India's position very clearly during his speech to the UNGA in September," he said.
The BJP leader's statement came after militants and security forces exchanged heavy firing near the International Border in the Arnia region of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday. The operation to flush out the militants ended today, leaving three jawans and three civilians dead, along with the four militants.
