The Union government on Wednesday hiked the price of non-subsidised cooking gas by Rs 21 per cylinder. The fresh rates came into effect from Tuesday midnight. Earlier, the government had hiked the price of non-subsidised cooking gas or LPG by Rs 14.2 a cylinder in November last year.
Non-subsidised cooking gas (LPG) now costs Rs 548.50 in Delhi as against Rs 527.50 previously.
Those travelling in air conditioned coaches of trains will now have to shell out more from today, with the government deciding to impose 'Krishi Kalyan' cess of 0.5% on service tax.
Besides the cylinder price, the Krishi Kalyan cess of 0.5% on service tax will be imposed on all AC class rail tickets, freight and parcel.
The increase in service tax will be applicable on tickets issued on or after June 1 and not on tickets issued prior to 1st of June.
The service tax is not applicable to non-AC and sleeper class travel. Imposing Krishi Kalyan cess on service tax from June 1 was part of Railway's budgetary proposals.
The aviation turbine fuel (ATF) or jet fuel price was also hiked by a steep 9.2%.
In the fourth straight monthly increase in rates on global cues, ATF price in Delhi was increased by Rs 3,945.47 per kilolitre, or 9.2%, to Rs 46,729.48 per kilolitre.
