Shortly after a committee of the United Nations General Assembly called on the Security Council to refer North Korea to the International Criminal Court over its human rights record, the nation has denied the charges flatly.

A 400-page report prepared by the Commission of Inquiry mandated by the UN Human Rights Council described the gravity, scale and nature of human rights violations in North Korea as "without parallel in the contemporary world."

However, the nation not only rejected the commission's findings but also issued a counter-report stating that North Koreans "feel proud of the world's most advantageous human rights system," reported The Independent.

It has also initiated talks with the UN's human rights expert on North Korea and has taken part in the Universal Periodic Review process of the UN Human Rights Council.

The motion introduced by the UN committee, that sought an investigation into alleged crimes against humanity committed by the regime, still needs to be voted on by the entire General Assembly.
